Cast-A-Seal 12-08, one of Press-Seal’s most popular cast-in connectors, installed on a precast structure.
Only concrete pipes use cast-in seals, right? Wrong! But don’t worry if we tricked you—this is a common misconception. And Press-Seal is here to shed light on the facts behind precast seals. Discover the truth to this misconception and several others below!
Complicated Seals Cost More
This is a two-in-one combo. Because the seal is cast into the structure, folks might think it’s a more complicated process that costs more. In reality, cast-in connectors are simple in nature and save time, money, and energy in the field. Why?
Press-Seal Cast-A-Seals require few tools to install and assemble into precast structures in literal minutes—no complexities here! Plus, there’s less labor involved. We all know how expensive coring machines can get. Eliminate hole coring by implementing a connector that forms the hole before the cement even dries!
Boots Get Damaged

Cast-A-Seal 12-08 in its folded position—necessary for install and great for protected transport.
Well, yes—if improperly stored, cared for, maintained, or installed, a boot may get damaged. But maybe you’re envisioning a rubber connector sticking out the side of your precast structure, and now it’s going to be transported on a truck where it will surely get damaged. Press-Seal’s ingenious engineering department took that possibility into consideration when designing our cast-in connectors—they fold inward during transport and easily pop back out once they reach the field.
Cast-In Seals Prevent Deflection
The opposite, actually. Like our boot connectors, our Cast-A-Seals are designed to allow pipe deflection to meet ASTM C923 (Standard Specification for Resilient Connectors Between Reinforced Concrete Manhole Structures, Pipes, and Laterals). The large keylock assures a watertight seal between the connector and the precast structure while accommodating natural pipe deflection.
Hole Formers Are Expensive
They can be. Casting tools, such as mandrels, are available for many sizes of applications, but you can easily fabricate them from host pipe, rolled steel rings, or even foam.
Cast-Ins Only Go with Concrete Pipe
You were ready for it this time! You might’ve thought these connectors were used only for concrete pipe applications, but that’s certainly not the case. PVC, ductile iron, and concrete pipe all utilize our Cast-A-Seal cast-in connectors, which cover pipe sizes ranging from 1.25 inches to 72 inches (31.75 mm to 1,828.8 mm). We’re certain we have the right connector for your needs!
