Simple. Reliable. Unique. Discover how a pre-lubricated gasket designed and manufactured in Northeast Indiana provides the desired seal for joints in concrete pipes, manholes, and box culverts.

What Is the RFS Gasket?

Exclusive to Press-Seal, the RFS (Reduced Friction Seal) gasket comprises internal lubrication encapsulated by an all-rubber exterior. This innovative design helps save time and money: no external lubrication step is required during installation, and internal lubrication prevents loose debris from collecting on the gasket’s surface. Pre-lubrication also reduces insertion forces, thus virtually eliminating the possibility for gaskets to twist or roll out of the joint.

What Specifications Does the RFS Meet?

Press-Seal’s engineering and product development teams continuously work to ensure that we meet or exceed the most demanding specifications, including:

  • ASTM C1619 (Class C) (Standard Specification for Elastomeric Seals for Joining Concrete Structures)
  • ASTM C443 (Standard Specification for Joints for Concrete Pipe and Manholes, Using Rubber Gaskets)
  • CSA A257.3 (Standards for Concrete Pipe and Manhole Sections)

Does Press-Seal Manufacture Pre-Lubricated Gaskets in Nitrile?

Absolutely! Our RFS nitrile gaskets comprise specially developed Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR) polymer for applications where exposure to petro by-products or solvent-based products may occur. We manufacture cross sections in a variety of profiles just like we do with our standard RFS gaskets, and they contain the same type of lubricant as the standard RFS, as well.

How Is the RFS Manufactured?

The manufacturing process behind the RFS is a standard extrusion using high-precision molds and dies for splicing. Press-Seal has been manufacturing gaskets for more than 70 years and is the only gasket manufacturer in the precast market that mixes its own rubber. This long-standing company history, coupled with our vertical integration, provides our clients with greater quality control and delivery than the competition.

What Precast Products Can You Use the RFS For?

Whether you use our standard compound or nitrile variant, the RFS pre-lubricated gasket can be used on:
