WATERWORKS

Waterworks Pipe Products for Infrastructure

Potable water is clean water. That relaxing shower, refreshing beverage, and freshly washed bunch of strawberries you're snacking on are all, in part, courtesy of potable water. But this is not some bottomless luxury. According to the National Ground Water Association, humans can only use 0.3 percent of Earth's total water. All of us share the responsibility of caring for this invaluable resource with diligence, including its infrastructural methods of collection, maintenance, and distribution. Discover how Press-Seal plays a direct role in protecting our planet's clean water supply by designing, manufacturing, and distributing quality waterworks products across the world for polyvinyl chloride (PVC), ductile iron, and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe—all from our Midwest home of Northeast Indiana.

Waterworks FAQs

  1. What is waterworks?

As an industry, waterworks concerns the water management systems behind potable water supplies.

  2. What is potable water?

Potable water is clean water that is safe to drink.

  3. What is exfiltration?

Exfiltration, in the context of waterworks, is the process by which water escapes from water collection systems. Proper sealing and installation techniques are ways to reduce this possible issue.

  4. What is infiltration?

Infiltration, in the context of waterworks, is the process by which foreign particles or water enter water collection systems. Proper sealing and installation techniques are ways to reduce this possible issue.

  5. Why do we need to prevent exfiltration and infiltration in water collection systems?

Potable water is integral to daily life and function. Any discharge, or loss, of that clean resource is wasteful and becomes contaminated once it leaves the watertight seal of a waterworks system. Any incurrence, or entry, of foreign objects or contaminated water into that clean resource can result in subsequent contamination, which can negatively impact recipients along that water supply line.

  6. Do waterworks systems need to be watertight?

All collection systems should be watertight to prevent any exfiltration and infiltration. Government regulations are in place to ensure the proper conveyance of contaminated water, such as stormwater or wastewater. By ensuring potable water systems are watertight, that risk of contamination lowers or is removed completely.
