Wrenches
The PSX: Direct Drive employs three types of torque wrenches to install its stainless steel expansion mechanism. The guide organizes them based on wrench color, hole size, minimum manhole size, pipe accommodation size, and even minimum span/rise for straight walls.
Refer to our cross-reference chart located in the product’s full literature for more detailed information.
Expansion Sleeves
The Direct Drive also utilizes three different types of tempered series 304 stainless steel expansion sleeves based on hole size. If the diameter of the hole is:

PSX: Direct Drive expansion sleeve.
- 8–26 inches (203.2–660.4 mm), the expansion sleeve will feature one adjuster
- 28–32 inches (711.2–812.8 mm), the expansion sleeve will feature two adjusters
- 34–48 inches (836.6–1,219.2 mm), the expansion sleeve will feature three adjusters
Pipe Types
The Direct Drive works well with several different pipe types, the most common of which are:
- PVC
- RCP
- HDPE
- CI/DI
Take-Up Clamps
Similar to how the number of adjusters present within the expansion sleeve increases with hole size, the number of stainless steel take-up clamps increases with pipe diameter size. If the pipe diameter is:
- 1.7–23.25 inches (43.18–590.55 mm), use one take-up clamp (though utilizing two clamps is optional)
- 23.4–27.4 inches (594.36–695.96 mm), use two take-up clamps
- 27.4–44.5 inches (594.36–1,130.3 mm), use four take-up clamps
ASTM Specifications
The PSX: Direct Drive meets or exceeds the following ASTM certifications:
- C923 (Standard Specification for Resilient Connectors Between Reinforced Concrete Manhole Structures, Pipes, and Laterals)
- C1478 (Standard Specification for Storm Drain Resilient Connectors Between Reinforced Concrete Storm Sewer Structures, Pipes, and Laterals)
- F2510 (Standard Specification for Resilient Connectors Between Reinforced Concrete Manhole Structures and Corrugated Dual- and Triple-Wall Polyethylene and Polypropylene Pipes)
- D2321 (Standard Practice for Underground Installation of Thermoplastic Pipe for Sewers and Other Gravity-Flow Applications), Section 7.10 Manhole Connectors
